This Oil on Wood Panel painting (dated 1760) had a split panel that had been unevenly reattached in a previous restoration work. The split panel was so securely attached that removing it to reposition it would most probably cause more damage than good, so in that case the choice of treatment was to keep the panel as it was and minimise the effects by using filling and retouching (as little as possible).

The painting also had a thick layer of dark oxidised varnish that was covering the colours and details of the landscape. In some areas there were also drying cracks that needed filling and retouching.
The treatment involved dry cleaning, wet cleaning, filling up the uneven panel and cracks and retouching to match the surrounding colours. A very satisfying project, that achieved a beautiful result without the need of major interventions.
