This set of miniature Sill Life paintings by Austrian artist Franz Nowak (Wien, 1885-1973) was heavily damaged - there were several missing decorations on the frames and even signs of fire damage on one of the paintings.
Detail - Filling decorations during treatment
The treatment involved dry cleaning and wet cleaning of the paintings. The frames demanded much more attention with the creation of new decorations, retouching the burr wood imitation finish to match the surrounding colours and finally gilding. An extensive and satisfying project carried out in these lovely little paintings.
